Further improvement in performance

The EvoFIT team has carried out the latest laboratory assessment of EvoFIT, assessing the effectiveness of three techniques used together. The new techniques are currently being field trialled by our police users.

Revolutionary facial identification system takes global acclaim at two prestigious ceremonies

A revolutionary facial composite system developed in Lancashire and used by police forces around the world to catch criminals has won global acclaim after being recognised at two prestigious award ceremonies.

Dr Charlie Frowd’s EvoFIT software system, created by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and the University of Stirling, has won the University Excellence Competition category at the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) event TechWorld. See, http://www.techworld.uk.com/zh-hans/home.

And yesterday evening Dr Frowd and his research team were also recognised at the Times Higher Education (THE) awards, which are the university sector’s equivalent of the Oscars, shortlisted in the ‘Research Project of the Year’ category.

The THE shortlisting relates to a novel caricature animation technique that substantially enhances the effectiveness of facial composites and which can be used in conjunction with EvoFIT.

Stretching a composite improves id

13/10/2011

The EvoFIT team has found that vertically or horizontally stretching a composite significantly improves our ability to correctly recognise the face. The team has found that looking at the face from side-on has the same effect, called a ‘perceptual stretch’, leading to a practical new method to further improve the identification of EvoFITs.
